LIFE OF A MEDICAL STUDENT (part 2)
6. SELF-CARE ROUTINES.
There is so much to do, I relate, but self-care is important. Take
regular breaks to stand and stretch during study, schedule some no-study days
for your hobbies, fun with friends and relaxation, set clear boundaries around
when you will stop studying for the day.
7. KEEP RECORDS.
This tip is for all those with a literary side to their personality.
Learn to keep journals of your activities and your feelings. Writing about your
emotions can improve personal honesty and understanding of your feelings. From
record keeping, you can discover insights to problems you haven’t thought of
before. Make time to introspect. I do
this because I feel more connected to my experiences after writing about them.
I think you should try it out.
In light of the struggle in medical school, it is easy to overlook your
accomplishments. Writing about them prevents them. Appreciate yourself
regularly, never lose sight of what you have achieved and how far you’ve come
from your origin. Learn to understand how amazing you are for accomplishing
your set goals, right from your daily tasks. I am of the strong opinion that
self-value and love is a key determining factor in how you balance your
personal life.
Do not compromise on your meals, ensure you eat regularly and healthy
too, incorporate fruits into your diet too. Eating right allows you to maintain
your health and keep up your energy for your daily activities.
Its no fun to be a medical student battling ulcer or any other eating
disorders. Make sure you eat well and exercise to stay fit.
Its easy to forget home while in school, to ignore friends to battle that
difficult course but when you succeed, who do you share your joy with?
Have a strong relationship with family and friends is a crucial part of
your overall well-being and can provide much needed connection and support
during school challenges. Make time for friends, call home weekly and of course
hold special people closely.
These tips and more can help you to balance your personal, work, and
school life and remain a happy, healthy student.
Thanks for reading.
